Age is just a number: Arun Singh

Mr. Arun Singh is a retired person and has a target podium of finishers at the World  Masters   Athletics Championships in Toronto Canada in 2020 at the age of 70. He believes that God wanted him to run marathons.

At the age of 48 he was advised by a group of friends to join morning walk and from then he started walking, jogging and finally started running marathons. In the year 2003, he participated in a run organized by HSBC and he ran for 10kms and was a 2nd runner’s up in his age category. This achievement of him inspired him to the fullest and encouraged him to take up running marathons seriously.

Mr. Singh says that Airtel Run For Education was started with intention of fundraising to impart education to the deprived children and it was a huge success.  And at this point of time, Run For Education has created a new avenue for health-conscious people of Kolkata. He runs long distance for more than 15 years and has participated in Mumbai and Delhi marathon for a quite number of times. Recently he participated at the BSF MARTYRS day Half-Marathon in Kolkata.

Presently he is more into hurdling. On September 2017 he participated at the 20th Asia Masters Athletics Championship at Rugao, China and got a Gold Medal in 300 meters hurdles and a Silver Medal in 100 meters hurdle. Earlier in may 2016 at the 19th Asia Masters Athletics Championship in Singapore he won two Gold Medals and a Bronze Medal in 65 years age group. Presently he is a national champion in 100 meters.

Mr. Singh has made outstanding set of achievements in the field of hurdle which includes:

  • 20th World  Master Athletic meet(100 mts, 2013)- Brazil.
  • 35th National Master Athletic meet(300 mts,Silver Medal, 2014)- Coimbatore.
  • 35th National Master Athletic meet(100 mts , Gold Medal, 2014)- Coimbatore.
  • 18th Asian Masters Athletic meet(300 mts,14th, 2014)- Japan.
  • 18th Asian Masters Athletic meet(100 mts,10th, 2014)- Japan.
  • 36th National Master Athletic meet(100 mts,Silver Medal, 2015)-Goa.
