Meet Sunbul Rahman: 21K Pacer for ARFE 2018

She is an entrepreneur, a runner, a fitness enthusiast, a high-altitude trekker and above all a mother of two daughters.

She completed her schooling from La Martiniere for Girls’ Kolkata. Then she shifted to Mumbai to pursue her graduation from Mumbai Sydenham’s. Living in Marine drive and watching people run got her interest in running. And that is how her journey started.

Then she came back to Kolkata and got married. But unfortunately, she lost her husband in 2005 due to cancer. This is the time she gained a lot of weight too, which is why she started running again. She took running seriously after 2011 when she participated in a 5km mini marathon organized by her club and secured the first position.

After 5km, she started taking parts in 10km runs and following up to a 21km run as well in 2015. After this, she never looked back again.

This year she completed her first full marathon in Mumbai with a time of 4hrs 44mins. She runs with a group called Kolkata Road Runners. They are like her second family, helping her through all ups and downs and have been a tremendous source of strength and support.

When she’s not running you will find her looking for some challenging treks and peaks to climb in the Himalayas.

She has summited some respective peaks like Stok Kangri, Kang Yatse II and Dzo Jongo (approx 20000ft) along with Everest base camp.

Some of her best achievements are –

  1. In 2015 she placed second in Tata TSK 25k in her age category
  2. In 2017 she was placed third in Pinkathon Kolkata 21k
  3. In 2017 she was placed first in the BSF Marathon 10k category
  4. In 2018 she successfully paced the Independence Run held in Kolkata
  5. She has been chosen as a brand ambassador for IDBI Marathon to be held in Kolkata in 2019

According to Sunmbul Rahman –

“Airtel Run for Education is very special to me as I got my first PB here last year in 2017. Running has made my personality stronger. It has also taught me to become more disciplined and dedicated for which I feel nothing but gratitude.”
