Meet Shubhashis Ghosh: 10K Pacer for ARFE 2018

Shubhashis was diagnosed with a rare electrical wiring issue in Heart called Supra Ventricular Tachycardia (SVT) at the very early age of his life.

SVT means the heart starts beating at 200+ bpm (beats per second) any time all of a sudden even while resting or sitting idle. One cannot control the heart rate to be normal again. The heart comes to the normal rate in a respective time span.

He went to many doctors but there’s no such specific medicine for the problem so he started living his normal life along with it.

His physical challenges did not end here. He met with a fatal accident in which his left leg was affected and his tibia and fibula bones had crush fractured.

There was a 4 inch of bone deficiency, after 15 major surgeries, more than 100 stitches, bone grafting, flap reconstruction and skin grafting he could put his left leg on the ground again after 3 long years.

In the process, he became unfit, which he realized when his two-year-old son could easily beat him in any physical activity. His hectic IT Job life never made him realize that he needed some physical activity to come out of that particular shell.

On December 2016, while searching on the Internet about the benefits of running, he came across the One Kolkata Full Marathon website and quickly decided to take up the challenge of running though he never ran a single km in his life.

While registering for 10 km, he was not hesitant enough so he registered for Half Marathon!!!

There were only 59 days left. He started running on 2nd January 2017 and could run only 1.7 km on the very first day before, he went out of breath. He started practicing every day to increase his stamina. He could complete his first half marathon on 29th January 2017 at 2:54:00 hrs. There was no looking back after that. He has completed 10 half marathons including Hyderabad, Bangalore and Mumbai Marathons. On 4th February 2018, he completed his First Full Marathon in 6:20 hrs.He also formed a Running group Happy Feet Runners in Howrah area to spread the awareness about fitness and running.

Now he is preparing for his first Ultra Marathon of 60 km on 2nd December 2018.

Shubhashis proved that,

‘No physical challenges can stop you if you are focused and committed to defeating it.’
